On October 1, as China marks its 75th anniversary, the much-anticipated art exhibition “Inked Elegance Celebrating China” was officially inaugurated at the Cultural Center in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou. Featuring the acclaimed artists Qiao Ping, Tao Diqian, and Zhang Zhanxin, this exhibition showcases over a hundred recent works, promising a visual and spiritual delight for the local community and art lovers.
The exhibition is organized by the Guangdong Cultural Media Development Research Association, with significant support from the Guangzhou Fusheng Calligraphy and Painting Institute and the Yuexiu District Cultural Center, as well as collaboration with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Economic and Cultural Promotion Association. It will remain open to the public until October 10. On the opening day, the Guangzhou Fusheng Calligraphy and Painting Institute was officially launched, where the three artists created live artworks and gifted pieces to attendees.
The theme “Inked Elegance Celebrating China” seeks to emphasize the distinctive charm of Chinese culture and its contemporary spirit through the traditional mediums of calligraphy and painting. The works on display reflect a blend of classical techniques and modern artistic sensibilities.
Each of these three artists has dedicated significant parts of their careers to cultural media. Qiao Ping serves as the honorary chairman of the Guangzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles and is also a delegate to the Guangzhou People’s Congress. Tao Diqian, a former executive editor of Southern Metropolis Daily, is a highly respected calligrapher. Zhang Zhanxin holds memberships in both the China Writers Association and the Guangdong Artists Association and is renowned for his substantial contributions to calligraphy and painting.
All three artists are deeply rooted in China’s traditional culture, which has significantly influenced their artistic identities. Their profound sense of patriotism and relentless pursuit of artistic excellence have inspired them to create a wealth of artwork. During a discussion session at the exhibition, experts provided enlightening critiques and analyses of the artists’ creations.
Notably, Qiao showcases an impressive 13.8-meter-long calligraphy roll entitled “Ode to Guangzhou,” derived from an original text by Liu Sifen. His fluid and elegant cursive script vividly encapsulates Guangzhou’s rich historical narrative and the progress achieved through reform and openness, breathing life into the vibrant city through his calligraphy.
Tao Diqian’s works are celebrated for their airy elegance and distinct style. A poetry enthusiast, he offers viewers a chance to explore the calligraphic techniques of both ancient and contemporary masters while expressing the sentiments of a poet.
The exhibition is more than just a display; it features engaging activities, including live performances by the artists, discussions on the art of calligraphy, and the launch of the “Inked Elegance Celebrating China” collection, which showcases the calligraphic masterpieces of Qiao Ping, Tao Diqian, and Zhang Zhanxin.
