On October 18, the 2024 China Changyuan Corrosion Control Industry Expo officially kicked off in Changyuan City, Henan Province, a region known as the “Capital of Corrosion Control.” The event, themed “Empowering the Future with Technology,” brought together over 1,000 representatives from corrosion prevention companies nationwide, showcasing how technology is driving innovation and transformation in the field of corrosion control.
The expo is organized by the China International Association for Science and Technology Advancement, the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection, and the Changyuan Municipal Government, with support from various local and national industry associations. Spanning three days, the expo features ten exhibition zones, including sections dedicated to intelligent coating equipment, branded anti-corrosion coatings, and safety protection equipment. Attendees can observe drone spraying demonstrations, engage in strategic signing ceremonies, and attend experience-sharing sessions, with talks led by academicians and experts from the corrosion control field, fostering a platform for communication and collaboration across the entire industry.
During the first day of the expo, Liang Daopeng, Chairman of Henan Suoteng New Material Co., Ltd., shared, “We’ve already signed agreements with two research institutes and also with three equipment companies and seven anti-corrosion companies, totaling over 80 million yuan.” On the opening day alone, 40 companies signed on-site project agreements amounting to 2.876 billion yuan, with seven contracts exceeding 100 million yuan and totaling 1.832 billion yuan.
Recognized as “China’s Capital of Corrosion Control,” Changyuan’s anti-corrosion industry reached a market value of 46.879 billion yuan in 2023. In the first three quarters of 2024, the construction anti-corrosion sector reported a total output value of 32.64 billion yuan, contributing 2.208 billion yuan in taxes, accounting for 40% of the city’s total tax revenue.
Current statistics indicate that Changyuan is home to 1,352 construction anti-corrosion companies, holding 233 utility model and invention patents in the related field, with a workforce of approximately 150,000. The corrosion control industry has become a dominant pillar of the local economy, commanding over 70% of the national corrosion control market share.
Wang Xiaohong, a second-level inspector from the Henan Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, remarked at the opening ceremony, “Corrosion control is a vital component of the construction industry system in Henan Province. Changyuan stands out as a nationally recognized ‘Capital of Corrosion Control’ and a pilot area for construction industry reform in the province.” He highlighted that the recently released “Action Plan for Cultivating and Expanding the Green Building Industry Chain (2023-2025)” includes the protection and new materials park in Changyuan as a key industrial zone.
Li Xiaogang, President of the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection, commented, “Over the past decade, Changyuan’s corrosion control technology has made significant leaps. Corrosion protection acts as the ‘hospital’ for equipment and facilities, and currently, China’s anti-corrosion industry reaches a scale of trillions annually, with promising market prospects.”
Local officials noted that this expo aims to build a platform for communication and cooperation in the corrosion control sector, driving technological advancement and process upgrades while promoting quality development in the industry.
