According to the latest updates from the China Meteorological Administration, a cold front has caused significant weather changes across various regions. On October 19, eastern Heilongjiang, eastern and southern Liaoning, eastern Shandong, northern and central Henan, as well as coastal areas in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Fujian experienced gusts between 7 to 8 levels, with certain areas along the southern Liaoning coast reaching gusts of 9 to 11 levels. This morning, parts of Shaanxi, southern Shanxi, Beijing, central and southern Hebei, Henan, northern Anhui, and western Hubei saw temperature drops ranging from 6 to 10 degrees Celsius.
The influence of this cold air mass on mainland China is expected to diminish today, but strong winds of 7 to 8 levels, with gusts reaching 9 levels, will still affect the eastern and southern sea areas. Specifically, parts of the northeastern East China Sea and the Taiwan Strait may experience winds of up to 9 levels, with gusts of 10 levels. Ships operating in these waters are advised to exercise caution for safety.
With the arrival of a new cold air system moving eastward, central and eastern regions are facing forecasted rain, snow, and further temperature drops. From October 20 to 22, regions including eastern Southwest China, Jianghan, North China, most of Northeast China, Huanghuai, and Jianghuai are expected to see light to moderate rain (or snow), with some areas in northern Guizhou, eastern Chongqing, northwestern Hunan, the Shandong Peninsula, and eastern Northeast China possibly receiving heavy rain, and localized torrential downpours. Areas such as central and eastern Inner Mongolia, northern and central Shanxi, northwestern Hebei, western and northern Beijing, and northwestern Heilongjiang may experience light to moderate snow or sleet; particularly, northeastern Inner Mongolia and northwestern Heilongjiang could see significant snowfall.
Starting tomorrow, the eastern part of the Northwest, North China, Northeast, and Huanghuai will experience temperature drops ranging from 4 to 8 degrees Celsius, with localized drops exceeding 10 degrees. Wind speeds of 4 to 6 levels, with gusts of 7 to 8 levels, are expected in these areas, while eastern and southern coastal regions will see strong winds of 7 to 8 levels, with gusts reaching 9 to 10 levels, and some sea areas might register winds of up to 9 levels with gusts of 11 levels.
Experts are reminding the public that the recent frequent cold air activity has led to fluctuating temperatures, especially in eastern Inner Mongolia and Northeast China, where temperature changes can be quite pronounced. It is crucial for everyone to stay informed on temperature forecasts and dress appropriately to avoid catching a cold. For the next three days, the rain and snow are expected to be generally mild across central and eastern regions, but those venturing outdoors should remain cautious of traffic conditions.
