During an orientation program for newly admitted students at the Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) in Yaba, Provost Professor Raheem Akewushola delivered a strong message: prioritize your studies, avoid distractions, and steer clear of any form of misconduct. The event took place on Thursday, marking the start of the 2024/2025 academic session.

Congratulating the students for successfully navigating a challenging admissions process, Prof. Akewushola made it clear that competing for admission was no small feat, with around 1,000 students accepted from over 3,000 applicants. He urged them to take their acceptance seriously, emphasizing the importance of their roles in the future of Nigeria’s healthcare system.

“The orientation program aims to help you understand how the college operates and equip you with vital information for a successful academic experience,” he noted. He further highlighted the essential contributions that these incoming healthcare professionals could make to the nation, encouraging them to seize this opportunity for meaningful engagement in the health sector.

Prof. Akewushola reiterated that admissions were provisional, contingent upon the verification of the information provided in applications. He cautioned that any discrepancies or false claims could result in revocation of admission.

Assuring students of the college’s resources, the Provost mentioned that LASCOHET boasts a skilled and practical-oriented faculty, bolstered by partnerships with various allied health organizations. He also pointed out the integration of telemedicine into their teaching methods, aligning with their goal of delivering cutting-edge healthcare education.

Looking ahead with optimism, Prof. Akewushola expressed his excitement for students’ return in two to three years for their graduation ceremony, hoping to celebrate their academic successes.

Throughout the orientation, faculty members and key administrative staff guided students through essential processes, including library usage, student union activities, religious practices, and understanding how to calculate their Cumulative Grade Point Averages (GPAs).

This orientation signifies the start of a significant journey for these students as they embark on a mission to reinforce the healthcare workforce in Lagos State and beyond, preparing for impactful careers in the health sector.
