On the morning of October 24, President Xi Jinping delivered a significant speech titled “Gathering the Mighty Strength of the Global South to Jointly Promote the Building of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind” at the “BRICS Plus” Leaders’ Dialogue in Kazan. President Xi emphasized the responsibility of the leading countries of the Global South to showcase their collective wisdom and strength in the pursuit of a shared future for humanity. In interviews with international figures, many expressed that Xi’s remarks have injected vital confidence and momentum into the revitalization of the Global South, providing clear direction for uniting its forces to construct a community with a shared destiny.

President Xi stated, “We must be a stabilizing force for peace, enhancing global security governance and exploring comprehensive solutions to urgent issues.”

Elvira Habibullina, an associate professor at the Department of International Relations at Kazan Federal University in Russia, noted, “President Xi’s speech is truly guiding. China’s advocacy for genuine multilateralism is crucial in pushing the global governance system towards a more just and equitable direction—something desperately needed in today’s international relations.”

Brazil’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and BRICS Affairs Coordinator, Saboya, underscored the importance of strengthening dialogue and cooperation among BRICS nations and a broad range of emerging market countries and developing nations in addressing global challenges and issues.

Hamid Hosseini, an Iranian scholar, highlighted that the BRICS cooperation mechanism and the “BRICS Plus” model have become essential platforms for emerging markets and developing nations to unite and uphold their common interests, rallying against unilateralism, protectionism, and hegemony.

Abdugani Mamadazimov, a senior researcher at the Institute of Eurasian Studies at the Tajik Academy of Sciences, pointed to the “Six-Point Consensus” jointly announced by China and Brazil, which has garnered positive responses from over 110 countries. This consensus aligns with the general expectations of the international community.

In July, Palestinian factions achieved internal reconciliation in Beijing, marking a significant step towards Middle Eastern peace. Hassan Dajaa, a professor at Jordan’s Hussein Bin Talal University remarked, “China advocates for dialogue over confrontation and inclusivity over exclusion, demonstrating its responsibility as a major power committed to maintaining global peace and stability.”

According to Tariq Zubadi, a professor at Baghdad University in Iraq, strengthening BRICS cooperation will contribute to establishing a fairer and more reasonable international order. As premier players in the Global South, BRICS nations can bolster collective action towards prosperity and play a greater role in global peace and development.

President Xi further emphasized, “We need to be a backbone for common development, actively participating in and leading reforms of the global economic governance system, placing development at the center of international economic and trade agendas.”

Yuri Tavrovski, a professor at Russia’s People’s Friendship University, remarked, “President Xi’s announcement of various cooperation plans is of significant real-world importance for promoting global development.” He noted that China’s push for BRICS cooperation not only enhances stability, but also infuses the elements needed for peace, innovation, and equitable growth.

Bulsani Ngcaweni, dean of the South African National School of Government, commented that the Global Development Initiative aligns with the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, promoting high-quality development in BRICS cooperation and enabling win-win collaboration among Global South countries on the path to modernization.

Professor Shahid Hossain from Somaiya University in India emphasized the importance of BRICS nations collaborating with emerging markets and developing countries to amplify the voice of the Global South and foster mutually beneficial cooperation.

Mohammed Asila, an economics professor at Tizi-Ouzou University in Algeria, stated that China serves as a crucial source of investment and trade partner for many emerging market and developing countries, playing a pivotal role in advancing inclusive and sustainable economic globalization.

Tang Zhimin, the director of the China-ASEAN Research Center at Chulalongkorn Business School in Thailand, expressed enthusiasm for seizing opportunities within the Global South for collaborative efforts toward establishing a more just and equitable international order.

President Xi concluded, “We should be a promoting force for civilizational exchanges, enhancing communication and dialogue, and supporting each other in following paths of modernization that align with our national conditions.”

Nadia Elmi, an associate professor at Beni Suef University in Egypt, stated, “The global civilization initiative not only promotes cultural cooperation among Global South nations and fosters mutual understanding and friendship but also advances the progress of human civilization.”

Sherik Koryumbayev, editor-in-chief of Kazakhstan’s “Business Magazine,” noted that under the BRICS framework, China is actively sharing innovative technologies and promoting green development, facilitating exchanges in governance, education, and cultural sectors, contributing significantly to the sustainable development of emerging markets and developing countries.

Evandro Carvalho, a professor and international issues expert at Brazil’s Fluminense Federal University, remarked that the ongoing strengthening of cooperation among BRICS nations and their joint development signifies that different civilizations can indeed build bridges of mutual understanding, injecting confidence and motivation for development amid a changing world.

“China advocates for multicultural exchanges and demonstrates a broad-minded approach to bridging civilizational divides and resolving conflicts,” commented Ahmed Hamadi, a political commentator from the UAE’s “Al-Ittihad.” He added that China’s proposed global civilization initiative fosters peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation among BRICS nations based on equality and mutual respect.

Balu Demissie, a researcher at the Ethiopian Policy Institute and a professor at Addis Ababa University, emphasized that China’s three global initiatives reflect a commitment to responsibility, and their implementation will facilitate higher-level development across various fields within BRICS nations.

Former Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif expressed that currently, countries in the Global South are largely pursuing a fairer and more equitable international order. China’s proposal of three global initiatives aimed at achieving common security and prosperity while promoting exchanges among different civilizations has garnered significant appreciation from other Global South nations for its role in addressing global challenges.
