In a recent development, South Korean military sources have disclosed that North Korea has begun installing protective walls along the Donghae Line highway. This follows an event on October 15, when North Korea detonated sections of the Gyeongui and Donghae railway lines, drawing significant international attention.
According to a report from the Korean Central News Agency on October 24, after the demolition of these railway connections, North Korea has started clearing debris and leveling the ground. They’ve recently initiated the construction of protective walls near the Donghae Line, first establishing the framework for these structures before pouring concrete to reinforce their fortification efforts.
Experts believe that this initiative is an extension of North Korea’s barrier construction activities that began in April along the northern side of the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). These barriers are thought to be aimed at preventing the movement of tanks and deter defections by soldiers and civilians.
While there have been no signs of similar protective wall constructions along the Gyeongui Line yet, military analysts speculate that North Korean forces may soon undertake comparable projects in that area as well.
