In a recent statement, the Iranian delegation to the United Nations claimed that the drone attack targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence was orchestrated by Lebanon’s Hezbollah. This assertion comes amid escalating tensions in the region, particularly following Hezbollah’s ongoing military actions against Israel in southern Lebanon.

Responding to inquiries about Iran’s role in the drone attack, the Iranian delegation clarified, according to reports from the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), that “this operation was executed by Hezbollah.”

Earlier, Netanyahu’s office reported that a drone launched from Lebanon struck his family home, leading the Prime Minister to accuse Hezbollah of attempting to assassinate him.

Hezbollah, a militant group armed and funded by Tehran, has not yet accepted responsibility for the attack. Netanyahu condemned the incident in a statement, emphasizing, “Iran’s proxy, Hezbollah, attempted to assassinate me and my wife today, which is a grave mistake.”

In his address to Iran and its affiliates, Netanyahu vowed, “Anyone who seeks to harm Israeli citizens will pay a heavy price.”

The conflict has intensified since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which marked the beginning of a larger war involving various groups aligned with Iran, referred to as the “Axis of Resistance.” Violence has surged in Gaza as a result of this escalation.

Additionally, Tehran has launched two direct attacks on its long-time adversary, Israel, during this conflict, the latest involving the firing of 200 missiles on October 1st, prompting Israel’s vows of retaliation.

Iran has warned that it will respond decisively if it finds itself under attack from Israel.
