In a recent interview in Asaba, Omon-Julius Onabu discussed the growing concern among political opponents regarding the strong relationship between Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa. Despite their wishes for discord, some have resorted to sharing false information online, falsely claiming the two leaders are at odds over unspecified issues.

Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, addressed the media, stating that the online narrative aims to create a rift between the two. He stressed that Governor Oborevwori and Senator Okowa remain united and are working together for the benefit of Delta State, despite attempts to drive a wedge between them.

Oghenesivbe urged both Nigerians and residents of Delta State to disregard the misleading publication, noting that the detractors’ efforts will ultimately come to nothing. He highlighted that both leaders share a goal: to deliver substantial dividends of democracy to the people and to serve as major stakeholders in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing rumors that Dr. Okowa was placing his allies around Governor Oborevwori, Oghenesivbe clarified that the individuals appointed by the current governor were the same dedicated team that supported the campaign leading up to the 2023 elections. He described these appointees as “competent individuals,” some of whom have served under previous administrations, including those of Chief James Ibori, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, and Senator Okowa.

He also pointed out that several political appointees have recently resigned for various reasons, whether to run for election or pursue personal interests, emphasizing that such resignations do not indicate any internal conflict, as suggested by misleading online claims.

“We woke up to yet another misleading online report that falsely alleges a cold war between Governor Oborevwori and Senator Okowa over non-existent issues,” Oghenesivbe remarked. “Deltans know the truth; these continuous streams of falsehood and targeted media attacks are merely tactics connected to political maneuvering for the 2027 governorship election.”

He added that while detractors may continue to misfire and express confusion, Governor Oborevwori and Senator Okowa will maintain their strong and fruitful relationship as established political allies.

The Oborevwori administration, according to Oghenesivbe, remains focused on socio-economic and infrastructural development across the state, emphasizing prudent management of resources alongside transparency and accountability. He affirmed that it is not a crime for a leader of Oborevwori’s caliber to effectively utilize state resources to improve the lives of the majority in Delta.

“This administration is committed to seeing the bigger picture, initiating and implementing policies and programs that will benefit the majority of citizens, while remaining free from political or religious bias,” he concluded.
