On October 15, 2023, the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup Finals kicked off in Beijing, marking the first day of competition. In the women’s 10-meter air rifle finals, 18-year-old Chinese athlete Huang Yuting captured the gold medal with a score of 254.5, setting a new world record and finishing 1.6 points ahead of the second-place competitor.
During the match, Huang demonstrated remarkable consistency, hitting two 10.9s in her final four shots.
With this victory, Huang has now completed a remarkable trifecta of gold medals, winning at the World Championships, the Olympics, and the World Cup Finals.
Born in 2006, Huang Yuting began her journey into the shooting sport at the age of 10 and joined the national training team in 2021. Over the past three years, her performance has steadily improved. At the 2022 World Championships, she claimed two golds and one silver, securing a ticket for the Chinese team to the Paris Olympics. Last year at the Hangzhou Asian Games, Huang added three gold medals to her collection while breaking the Asian Games record in the women’s 10-meter air rifle event.
This summer marked her Olympic debut. In the mixed team 10-meter air rifle finals, she and her partner Sheng Lihao secured the first gold medal for the Chinese delegation at the Paris Olympics. However, she narrowly missed out on a gold in the women’s individual 10-meter air rifle competition, finishing as the runner-up.
Huang’s impressive skills and steady mentality have caught the attention of many, with fans affectionately nicknaming her “Sister A-Tiao” based on her online handle.
Following a brief break after the Olympics, Huang made her return to the competitive scene last month, helping the Zhejiang team clinch the women’s air rifle team championship at the National Shooting Championships.
The ongoing World Cup Finals is one of the most significant international events following the Paris Olympics. The Chinese shooting team has sent its top athletes to compete, including Huang Yuting, Sheng Lihao, Liu Yukun, Xie Yu, and Li Yuehong.
After Huang’s gold medal performance, Sheng Lihao also completed his event, winning the men’s 10-meter air rifle final with a score of 251.4, narrowly edging out the second-place competitor by just 0.1 points. Another Chinese shooter, Du Linshu, finished in seventh place.
