On Election Day, New York City voters have the option to vote early in person. Early voting offers a convenient, quick, and flexible alternative.

Before heading out, it’s important to verify your designated early voting site, which may differ from your Election Day polling location.

Here’s what you need to know about the early voting process:

**Step 1: Find My Polling Place**

Starting this year, the Early Mail Voter Act allows all voters to cast their ballots early by mail without needing to provide a reason.

Key information to consider:

1. Any registered voter can apply for an early mail ballot.
2. If you have received an early mail ballot or an absentee ballot for this election, you cannot use the voting machine at the polling station.
3. If you do not use an absentee ballot or early mail ballot, you can only vote in person using a provisional ballot at the polling place, and you will not be able to use the voting machine.

**Step 2: How to Apply for an Early Mail Ballot**

1. Online: Visit [https://requestballot.vote.nyc](https://requestballot.vote.nyc).
2. Voters with disabilities who need assistance can apply for an accessible ballot here: [https://requestballot.vote.nyc/accessibility](https://requestballot.vote.nyc/accessibility).
3. You can also apply in person at your local Board of Elections (BOE) office.

**When to Apply for Your Ballot**

Make sure to apply for your early mail ballot or absentee ballot online or by mail before the ten-day deadline prior to the election. If you prefer, you can request it in person the day before the election. For the upcoming general election on November 5, 2024, the deadline for online or mail applications is October 26, 2024.

1. The deadline to apply in person at your local BOE office is November 4, 2024.
2. Once you receive your ballot, make your selections for each office and mark them on the ballot.
3. Place your ballot in the provided security envelope.
4. Sign and date the outside of the security envelope.
5. Seal the security envelope.
6. Insert the security envelope into a larger return envelope, which has your BOE’s return address and is marked “Official Election Mail.”
7. Seal the return envelope and drop it in a mailbox—postage is pre-paid!
