On the afternoon of October 7, a heartbreaking incident occurred near 8th Avenue in Brooklyn, leaving a four-year-old Chinese-American boy with severe head injuries. Eyewitnesses describe a scene where the child was walking alone when he was struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in critical condition. The police have since apprehended the driver involved in the accident.

The incident unfolded at the intersection of Fort Hamilton Parkway and 59th Street, close to a small park. Around 4:30 p.m., it was reported that a pair of four-year-old twin boys had slipped out of their home and wandered into the street, just a block from where the collision occurred.

One of the twins was crossing the street toward the park after leaving a nearby supermarket when he was hit by an oncoming car, suffering serious head injuries. Photographs from the scene show the boy’s clothing stained with blood, highlighting the severity of his injuries. Fortunately, his twin brother was unharmed. Sources indicate that the family recently immigrated from Fuzhou, China.

Following the collision, the driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and remained at the scene until police arrived. Witnesses noted that traffic was congested at the time of the accident, suggesting that speeding was not a factor. A yellow school bus was reportedly behind the car that struck the boy, and it’s possible the driver became frustrated with the slow-moving traffic, leading to the unfortunate event as the child crossed the street.

Law enforcement and emergency personnel responded swiftly, providing first aid to the injured boy before he was transported to Maimonides Medical Center for emergency care. His distraught mother rushed to the hospital, where she remains at her child’s side as he fights for his life.

In the aftermath of this tragic event, State Senator Julia Salazar has reached out to the NYPD’s 66th precinct and local community organizations familiar with the family. She expressed a commitment to maintaining close contact with police and hospital officials to monitor the situation and provide support to the family.

Nicole Huang, the director of a local parent support group, expressed concern over how the twins managed to wander onto a busy street while dressed in pajamas. She underscored the vital responsibility parents have to closely supervise their children and prevent them from accessing dangerous situations, warning that the consequences of neglecting this duty can be devastating.
