In a significant step for its growth, Burger King Nigeria has launched its 16th location at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in Ikeja, Lagos. This expansion signals Burger King’s commitment to revolutionizing the quick-service restaurant landscape in Nigeria, according to Mary Nnah.

The grand opening was a memorable occasion, welcoming dignitaries, customers, and partners. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a kitchen tour, and a lucky draw, where one fortunate guest won a free return flight courtesy of Ibom Air.

Rushdi Ibrahim, Managing Director and CEO of Allied Foods and Confectionery Services Limited, which operates Burger King in Nigeria, expressed pride in the company’s impressive growth. “We’ve opened 16 restaurants in just 33 months — roughly one restaurant every two months. This pace reflects our team’s dedication and the warm reception from the Nigerian market toward our brand.”

Ibrahim elaborated on the strategic choice to open the MMA2 branch. “Nigeria thrives on opportunities, and MMA2, as the country’s leading airport, presented an ideal location. Our objective was to provide Burger King’s exceptional dining experience at this critical junction, catering to the diverse palates of travelers.”

The brand’s commitment to incorporating local flavors into its menu was evident. Items such as yam fries, plantains, and potato cubes were created specifically for Nigerian customers. Ibrahim emphasized their focus on affordability and convenience, highlighting their efficient ordering systems via kiosks.

“While we innovate, we remain true to our brand essence,” Ibrahim asserted. “We won’t stray from who we are — the Home of the Whopper. Our customers expect high-quality, flavorful food, and we are dedicated to meeting those expectations.”

As for future expansions, Ibrahim stated, “Our priority is customer convenience while maintaining quality. We aim to be where our customers are, whether in bustling cities or major transport hubs.”

Hon. Adewale Temitope OON (JP), a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, underscored the state’s commitment to nurturing businesses like Burger King. “Burger King’s presence at our airport is a landmark achievement for any Nigerian airport. It showcases Lagos State’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for business growth. Despite economic hurdles, we are committed to cultivating a thriving business ecosystem.”

He highlighted Lagos State’s cosmopolitan nature, making it an appealing hub for trade. “As legislators, we focus on establishing a legal framework that encourages business growth. Lagos is replete with opportunities across various sectors, including technology, fintech, construction, and more.”

Aniekan Essienette, Group Manager of Marketing and Communication at Ibom Air, discussed the strategic partnership between Ibom Air and Burger King. “We received numerous partnership proposals, but Burger King’s was truly unique. We recognized the substantial value of their brand and were eager to collaborate.”

This partnership enables both brands to boost their visibility through joint marketing initiatives. Essienette mentioned that teaming up with Burger King fits seamlessly with Ibom Air’s mission to enhance customer experiences. “By joining forces with Burger King, we’re enriching our passengers’ journeys. Burger King is a trusted name, and we’re excited to have them on board.”

She praised Burger King’s marketing team for their swift execution of the agreement, stating, “We initiated discussions and finalized the partnership in just 14 days. Burger King is a remarkable brand, and we look forward to achieving great results together.”

Essienette also encouraged Ibom Air passengers to savor Burger King’s offerings and stop by their lounge at MMA2. “Today, Burger King is offering samples on our Lagos-Abuja and Lagos-Uyo flights. We believe that once our passengers experience their products, they’ll become loyal customers.”

Lerato Makume, Marketing Director for Burger King, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Ibom Air. “I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to Ibom Air for partnering with us on this exciting initiative. Together, we’re rewarding our loyal customers.”

Makume also introduced a special promotion: “For every purchase over 7,000 naira, customers will be entered into a lucky draw for a chance to win a free domestic return ticket on Ibom Air and other exciting prizes. One lucky winner redeemed a free return ticket at today’s event. This promotion will run until the end of September, and we encourage everyone to participate.”

As Burger King Nigeria continues to grow, it is evident that the brand is committed to delivering outstanding customer experiences. Through various initiatives and strategic partnerships, it is well-positioned to make a notable impact in the Nigerian market.
