On October 9th, I had the opportunity to interview 86-year-old Mr. Luo at Wanli Community in Nanning’s Xixiangtang District, where he shared his thoughts on a recent community health initiative. “This event is fantastic; being able to see a doctor right in our neighborhood is so convenient for us seniors,” he expressed.
This event kicked off the 2024 Elderly Care Month activities in Guangxi, aimed at raising awareness about aging. It offered a variety of services, including anti-fraud education, health consultations, legal assistance for seniors, and demonstrations of aging-friendly facilities. This comprehensive approach provided the elderly community with tangible support and care.
The community square buzzed with energy as many seniors eagerly participated in the various offerings. Health consultations were particularly popular, with seniors lining up to check their blood pressure and blood lipid levels and consult with doctors.
To improve health awareness and encourage self-care among the elderly, the Guangxi Health Commission collaborated with several health authorities to assemble a team of medical experts. They provided health check-ups, consultations, traditional Chinese medicine therapies, and educational resources focused on promoting healthy living.
Volunteers were also involved in a tech initiative called the Smart Elderly Care Service, which aimed to teach community members how to use smartphones and computers. Chen Huakai, operations manager at Guangxi Dongxin Health Technology Development Co., shared insights about their platform, “Guangxi Elderly Care One-Button Service – Smart Health.” This platform is designed to meet the health and elderly care service needs of seniors. “Seniors can easily access a variety of services through this platform,” he explained, adding that it includes information about senior-friendly residential care facilities and travel accommodations.
In addition to that, volunteers demonstrated a smart walking robot, which captured the attention of many elderly attendees. Zhou Jiangang, a key account director at Guilin ZhiKe Technology Co., remarked, “Our shower chairs are designed for seniors with limited mobility; they’re easy to use, and we sell over 2,000 units daily.”
Currently, Guilin ZhiKe Technology provides a range of intelligent care devices and platforms tailored for those with reduced mobility. Their products are not only utilized in over 100 cities across China but are also exported to more than 40 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and Europe and the United States. Zhou noted, “Our electric lift toilets, transfer aids, and folding electric scooters are particularly popular with international customers.”
