On the afternoon of September 29th, Fuzhou hosted a vibrant gathering that brought together compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, as well as from Hong Kong and Macau, for the “I Love You, Motherland” National Day cultural performance. This impressive event was organized by the Fujian Provincial Blind Association and the Fujian Experimental Min Opera Theatre.

Wang Yongcheng, a representative of the National People’s Congress and Vice Chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, addressed the crowd, encouraging more individuals to join the effort in supporting people with disabilities. He highlighted that this National Day celebration, which unites compatriots from various regions, symbolizes heartfelt solidarity and reflects the deep familial connections we share.

The performance offered a rich array of artistic expressions, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Audiences were treated to a selection of songs, including “The Character of a Soldier,” “Reading China,” “The Red Azalea,” and “October Is Your Birthday,” with performers showcasing their skills through singing, dancing, and recitation.

A particularly memorable moment came from Xu Chengbang of the Taiwan Blind Association, who captivated the audience with his passionate rendition of “Love Wins,” earning thunderous applause for his emotive delivery.

The event was punctuated by highlights such as a duet performed by Mo Liangming, chairman of the Fujian Blind Association and a national model retired soldier, alongside volunteers as they delivered “The Character of a Soldier.” Their heartfelt performance beautifully honored the dedication and loyalty of service members.

Students from the Fuzhou School for the Blind recited “Reading China” with touching sincerity, expressing their profound love and admiration for their homeland.

Classic songs like the medley of “The Red Azalea” and “October Is Your Birthday” not only evoked cherished memories but also instilled a strong sense of national pride linked to the country’s growth and resilience.

Moreover, segments from the modern Min Opera “Life,” along with a piano solo titled “Tiger Climbing the Mountain” and the dance “The Touch of Red,” showcased the beautiful blend of traditional culture with contemporary artistic innovation, leaving everyone in attendance thoroughly enthralled.
