On September 29, the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Zhigong Party hosted the 8th Overseas Chinese Conference and National Day Reception in Shijingshan District, under the theme “Unity in the Overseas Chinese Community: Building Dreams Together.” This significant event brought together over 60 representatives from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and various overseas Chinese communities spanning 15 countries and regions. Among the notable attendees were Yan Aoshang, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and chair of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Zhigong Party; Chang Wei, Secretary of the Shijingshan District Committee of the Communist Party; Gu Xingfa, Vice Chair of the Zhigong Party Beijing Committee; Li Dengxin, Deputy Secretary and Vice Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese; and Qian Xing, a member of the Standing Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the Shijingshan District Committee.
During the conference, Yan Aoshang warmly welcomed guests from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and the broader global Chinese community, emphasizing the importance of their gathering as they marked the 75th anniversary of New China. She highlighted the opportunity for attendees to witness the nation’s ongoing transformation and development, as well as the dynamic progress being made in the capital. Yan reiterated the Zhigong Party Beijing Committee’s commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative, showcasing how overseas Chinese play a vital role in this initiative. The conference was designed to foster collaboration, strengthen relationships, and unify efforts that support China’s modernization, while also encouraging overseas Chinese to actively engage in the development of the capital.
Guests shared valuable insights regarding how the Belt and Road Initiative has helped enhance friendly ties between China and their host countries and discussed their personal business growth as a result of participating in the initiative. They offered suggestions to advance cultural exchanges, tap into regional strengths for economic cooperation, promote education for overseas Chinese, and celebrate Chinese culture as the initiative progresses into a new phase of higher quality development.
Attendees expressed strong confidence in the establishment of an effective mechanism for the high-quality implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. They were eager to promote friendly relations between China and their host countries by sharing opportunities and showcasing their talents. To aid guests in navigating investment and development policies in Beijing, the conference featured presentations on the city’s investment promotion landscape and relevant information regarding business, technology, and cultural tourism in Shijingshan District. Additionally, representatives from the China-Europe Technology Innovation Center and the World Chinese Restaurant Federation signed six cooperation agreements with Chinese community organizations hailing from Taiwan, Japan, Australia, and Cambodia.
The meeting included participation from representatives of the United Front Work Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee, the Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Association, the Shijingshan District Committee of the Communist Party, and other pertinent government departments.
