On September 23, the Confucius Institute in Brussels held an art and calligraphy gathering that brought together a delegation from the China Guoyun Wenhua Calligraphy and Painting Institute, which is currently visiting Belgium. This collaborative event with Belgian artists aimed to showcase the rich beauty of Chinese culture.
During the gathering, the Chinese artists presented a portrait of Confucius, along with exquisite pieces of porcelain and Yixing clay teapots, to Hans Van Duysen, the chairman of the China-Belgium Association and the head of the Confucius Institute in Brussels. In recognition of their artistic contributions, Van Duysen honored the Chinese calligraphers with the title of “Ambassadors of China-Belgium Friendship.”
The event featured 25 members of the Chinese delegation who worked together on an impressive 8-meter-long scroll. This collaborative artwork was further enriched by several experienced Belgian artists, who added classic Chinese paintings of lotus flowers.
Adding to the significance of the occasion, sculptor Fang Chengguang unveiled a statue of Jacques Rogge, the former president of the International Olympic Committee from Belgium. This statue is intended to be presented to Rogge’s family by the Confucius Institute in Brussels.
Fu Rong, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute, spoke passionately about the importance of the China-Belgium Association, established in 1957, which has dedicated more than six decades to nurturing friendly relations between the two nations. He expressed hope that such artistic exchanges would further promote and spread the essence of Chinese culture.
