In an interview at the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (known as Beijing Yizhuang), officials have outlined their ambitious efforts to establish a comprehensive innovation system across various industries. On October 16, the “Beijing Yizhuang Global AI City Innovation Release Conference” took place, showcasing the inaugural benchmark achievements in building a fully integrated artificial intelligence ecosystem and providing a list of application opportunities open to innovative companies worldwide.
During the conference, Kong Lei, the director of the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area Management Committee, announced the first results of the Beijing Yizhuang AI City initiative and presented a second list of application scenarios available for exploration.
Since the launch of the initial AI demonstration application scenarios in June, the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area has emphasized innovation-driven strategies. Focusing on key industries, emerging strategic sectors, and future development needs, the area has fostered a deep integration of AI with industry, resulting in cutting-edge innovations across ten domains: healthcare, transportation, automotive cockpits, humanoid robotics, smart retail, government services, industrial design, drug research, energy-saving technologies, and media. These advancements aim to enhance high-precision industries within the area and promote high-quality production, improved quality of life, and effective governance through AI.
The second batch of demonstration application scenarios continues to strengthen opportunities in e-commerce, smart education, industrial design, intellectual property services, intelligent medical diagnosis, content security, manufacturing, smart media, administrative approval, and drug research. Twenty application projects led by local enterprises are anticipated to generate over 150 million yuan in procurement demand.
In light of rapid advancements in new technologies, particularly large models, the AI industry is experiencing significant transformations, characterized by breakthrough innovations, industry application integrations, and deep international collaborations. At this pivotal moment for the sector, there’s a pressing need to enhance industry standards for AI, aiming to guide high-quality development in line with high-quality standards.
During the conference, representatives from the Beijing AI Standardization Research Institute and the National Technical Standards Working Group announced the initiation of two national standards and six industry standards across various fields, including AI large models and social governance.
Established in August, the Beijing AI Standardization Research Institute aims to become a national hub for AI standard incubation and a model application demonstration area. Moving forward, Beijing Yizhuang plans to emphasize regional characteristics, accelerate the development of standards, clarify implementation paths, and manage resources effectively for impactful results.
Additionally, the first Urban Spatiotemporal Intelligence Collaborative Innovation Operation Center in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region was officially launched, jointly established by the Beijing Yizhuang Smart City Research Institute along with the Beijing Surveying and Mapping Design Institute and Amap. The center is set to explore compliant development of a multi-dimensional spatiotemporal data operation framework through low-cost and efficient digital technologies.
Furthermore, the China Information Association’s AI Subcommittee has established a presence in the national Xinchuang park in Beijing Yizhuang. As an affiliated group of the China Information Association, the subcommittee will leverage its resource advantages to facilitate key project connections and drive overall upgrades in the industry.
