Recently, a newlywed couple of police officers has captured the hearts of netizens with their remarkable act during their honeymoon trip.
Zhu Shaodong serves as an officer at the Huangshi Public Security Bureau’s Development Zone and Tieshan District division in Hubei, while his wife, Zhang Qin, is a member of the forest police unit. The couple officially tied the knot earlier this year and finally carved out time for their honeymoon after a busy first half of the year.
On the evening of September 25, while resting on a high-speed train, Zhu and Zhang were startled by a loud phone conversation from a man in front of them, who was using speakerphone. The snippets of the call piqued their interest: “airline ticket… Alipay… bank card…?” Given their professional background, they quickly suspected that the man might be falling victim to a scam.
As they pondered whether to intervene, the man suddenly got up and moved to the next train car, still following the instructions he received on the call with his phone. “I can’t wait! I must not transfer the money!” Zhu immediately sprang from his seat and chased after him.
Upon inquiry, the couple learned from the man’s wife that he had received a call from someone claiming to be from an airline customer service, stating that their flight was delayed and needed to be rebooked. They were told that by providing bank and Alipay account information, the rebooking and compensation could be processed easily online.
“Don’t transfer any money; it’s a scam!” Zhu interrupted, recognizing the situation. The man looked stunned, taken aback by Zhu’s words. “Trust me! I’m a police officer!” Zhu and Zhang then identified themselves, explaining the scam tactics used by impersonators.
Through their persistence and clear explanations, the couple convinced the man to cancel the series of transactions he was about to complete. A train officer also arrived to assist with further questions.
“I was told to find a quiet place so they could walk me through the online rebooking process,” the man commented, visibly shaken. “Thank goodness I ran into you; otherwise, I would have been in the dark and lost money!”
Reflecting on the intense moment, the man and his wife expressed immense gratitude for Zhu and Zhang’s timely intervention.
The police issued a reminder: when purchasing airline tickets, always use official channels and verified platforms to minimize the risk of information leaks. If informed of a flight delay or cancellation, it’s essential to verify through multiple channels, such as the airline’s official customer service or website. For transactions such as ticket refunds and changes, be sure to operate solely through the airline’s official site or ticketing platform. Safeguarding verification codes and passwords is crucial; do not disclose sensitive information to others, and avoid downloading unfamiliar applications or sharing screens with strangers.
Netizens are chiming in with praises: “Incredible! Balancing a honeymoon with fighting fraud!” Cheers to the double police couple for their dedication, and congratulations on their marriage!
