On October 18th, the 6th China Grain Trade Conference kicked off in Wuhan, Hubei Province. Themed “Grain Security for the World, Collaboration for Development,” this year’s event has seen participation from over 3,000 companies, marking a significant milestone. For the first time, an international exhibition zone has been established, featuring grain-related enterprises from 17 different countries.
Organized by the Grain Industry Branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Grain Trade Coordination Center of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, the conference spans an impressive exhibition area of 60,000 square meters. Over 20,000 attendees from more than 3,000 companies across all 31 provinces, regions, and municipalities are present. Additionally, the conference includes a direct matchmaking event connecting agricultural product producers and consumers from 393 poverty-relief counties, providing 850 cooperatives and enterprises with opportunities for product showcasing and collaboration.
In his opening address, Liu Huanxin, Director of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, highlighted that since its inception, the China Grain Trade Conference has consistently expanded its scale, broadened its outreach, and achieved significant cooperative success, playing a crucial role in maintaining food market stability and ensuring national food security. This year’s event, taking place in the Yangtze River Economic Belt and major grain-producing provinces in southern China, has reached unprecedented levels in terms of both participating companies and attendees. It aims to foster complementarity and deepen collaboration between grain production and consumption areas. For the first time, the conference introduced an international exhibition zone, attracting active participation from enterprises across 17 countries.
Shao Xinyu, the Executive Vice Governor of Hubei Province, noted that in recent years, Hubei has been strengthening its foundation for grain security and striving to ensure that high-quality Hubei grain fills the bowls of Chinese citizens. He emphasized that the China Grain Trade Conference serves as a grand platform for enhancing national food security and promoting high-quality industrial development. Hubei will leverage this conference to extend the grain industrial chain, enhance the value chain, and build a robust supply chain to support the high-quality growth of the grain and oil sector.
The China Grain Trade Conference has been held six times, aimed at facilitating direct connections between grain supply and demand, improving grain circulation efficiency, and supporting the high-quality development of the industry while ensuring national food security. According to official statistics, the total transaction volume of various types of grain across all previous conferences has reached 175 billion yuan (approximately 25 billion USD), and grain machinery and equipment transactions have exceeded 1.3 billion yuan.
