On October 14, the “Intangible Cultural Heritage Fireworks: A Home in My Heart” exhibition kicked off at the Wang Family Courtyard scenic area in Jinzhong, Shanxi Province. The event showcases an impressive collection of 1,522 items that represent 126 intangible cultural heritage projects from six provinces in Central China.
Co-hosted by the Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, along with the municipal governments of Jinzhong, Taiyuan, and Lüliang, this exhibition aims to highlight the significant achievements made in establishing national-level cultural ecological protection areas in these provinces while promoting the inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage.
Centered around the theme of “home,” this exhibition brings together representative intangible cultural heritage projects from Henan, Anhui, Hubei, Jiangxi, Hunan, and Shanxi. Utilizing the immersive, boundary-less exhibition space of the Wang Family Courtyard, it explores the concept of “home” from various perspectives, including family, hometown, homeland, and the nation. The display is divided into five units, each showcasing the unique charm and rich heritage of these projects.
On the opening day, performances featured a range of intangible cultural heritage projects from the six provinces, including Zuoquan Xiaohua Opera, Heluo Drum, Huizhou Folk Songs, Gannan Tea-Picking Opera, Xiangxi Miao Folk Songs, and the Baobao Copper Bell Dance from Southwestern Hubei. Representatives of these cultural heritages engaged with visitors through interactions that highlighted their unique cultural characteristics and showcased the diversity of Chinese cultural heritage.
“This exhibition has created a platform for cultural exchange and collaboration among the six provinces, while also fostering the inheritance and development of intangible cultural skills,” noted Qiao Yanli, Director of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Division of the Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. “We aim to provide visitors with an immersive cultural experience and offer practitioners a platform for close interaction with the public. Our goal is to integrate intangible cultural heritage into modern life through tourism.”
Furthermore, this exhibition serves as a concentrated showcase of intangible cultural heritage projects and promotes the concept of cultural ecological protection. Looking forward, the six central provinces intend to strengthen the regional comprehensive protection of intangible cultural heritage through the establishment of cultural ecological protection areas, collectively driving the inheritance and development of Chinese culture.
