At just 16 years old, Darcey from Nettlebed, Oxfordshire, is making waves in the theater world. She recently wrote a play titled “Blood Of My Father,” which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and is set to be showcased at the Drayton Arms Theatre in London for two days this January.
In our conversation, Darcey expressed her eagerness to dive into her future, remarking, “I just want my whole life to start… but then I remember we must get through our A-levels first.” In the meantime, she’s taken a bold step by establishing her own production company, BOMF, named after her play. Her goal? To create “more exciting new theatre and opportunities for young actors.”
Interestingly, “Blood Of My Father” began as a school assignment but quickly evolved into a full-fledged six-day run at the prominent arts festival in Scotland. Darcey shared some insights into the experience: “I think it’s a real experience that I don’t think you can really prepare for until you’re there. We sold out a couple of shows… Edinburgh was the most incredible experience.”
Reflecting on her journey post-success, Darcey feels that launching a production company was a natural progression. “I write everything myself; it’s all original, and I thought if we’re going to keep putting on exciting productions, we need a production company,” she explained.
As the cast gears up for their London shows—four performances over two days, with the last one already sold out—Darcey hopes to see those shows sell out completely. “It would be our dream to sell out our run at the Drayton Arms Theatre,” she said.
But Darcey isn’t resting on her laurels. She’s already working on her next project. “I never know when to stop—I’ve started writing the next play,” she revealed. “It’s going to be on a bigger scale, with more people involved, higher energy, and an all-around better, bigger production… I’ll try to distract myself from my A-levels by writing more plays.”
Darcey is certainly a rising star to watch!
