On October 21, 2023, in Beijing, the China Public Relations Association announced insights from the Erhai Forum, which focused on “International Communication in China’s Ecological Civilization Construction.” During a sub-forum titled “Harmonious Coexistence between Humanity and Nature: Comprehensive Advancement and All-Encompassing Communication,” experts and scholars engaged in discussions on the pathways and methods for conveying China’s ecological civilization narrative to the international community.
The sub-forum was jointly organized by the Academic Committee of the China Public Relations Association, the Public Relations Committee for Enterprises and Institutions, and the China International Publishing Group’s International Communication Development Center. Guo Weimin, President of the China Public Relations Association and former Deputy Head of the State Council Information Office, attended the forum and delivered a speech.
Several experts provided keynote addresses on two main topics: “Progress and Communication in China’s Comprehensive Ecological Civilization Construction” and “Telling China’s Ecological Civilization Story from Multiple Angles.”
The attending scholars emphasized that ecological civilization represents a new frontier for international cooperation in addressing global challenges, as well as a burgeoning space for international communication. They highlighted the importance of telling these stories using languages and methods that resonate with the international audience during engagements with the global community.
The experts advocated for active participation in international dialogues, enhancing cooperation and exchanges, and exploring broader cross-cultural dialogue avenues. They also called for the sustained development of ecological literature to enrich its international exchange and dissemination.
To further enhance the effectiveness of international communication, the forum marked the launch of the Dali Branch of the South Asia and Southeast Asia Regional International Communication Center in Yunnan Province. This branch aims to accelerate the development of China’s narrative framework and storytelling, contributing to a credible, appealing, and respectable image of China through the lens of Dali’s stories.
