During a routine press conference on October 16, a spokesperson for the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office addressed a question regarding the recent situation in Lebanon. A reporter asked about the evacuation of a Taiwanese national, who expressed during an interview that he has always identified China as his homeland, rather than just during the evacuation process.

In response, spokesperson Chen Binhua stated, “All compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait are Chinese. It is our duty to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Taiwan compatriots. We have long placed great importance on ensuring the safety and rights of overseas Taiwanese. From providing consular services to assisting in civil disputes and criminal cases involving foreign entities, we have stayed closely connected with our overseas Taiwanese citizens. Whether it’s evacuations from Libya, Yemen, or Sudan, or dealing with crises like the recent Israel-Palestine conflict and natural disasters, we consistently offer timely assistance. I want to reiterate that no matter where they are or what difficulties they face, our great motherland will always be a strong support for Taiwanese compatriots.”
