On October 26th, the Xiamen Daily held its 23rd Readers’ Festival, coinciding with the 75th anniversaries of the founding of New China, the liberation of Xiamen, and the establishment of the newspaper itself. This year’s theme, “A Long Song of Progress: Courageously Moving Forward on a New Journey,” invites citizens, readers, online users, and photographers to come together to witness the changes in the city, celebrate 75 years of development, and voice support for the new era.

Attending the opening ceremony were key figures such as Wu Zidong, member of the Standing Committee of the Xiamen Municipal Committee and Minister of Propaganda; Zheng Yuelin, Vice Chairman of the Xiamen Municipal People’s Congress; Liao Huasheng, Deputy Mayor of Xiamen; Li Qinhui, Vice Chairman of the Xiamen Municipal Political Consultative Conference; Cai Tingqian, Deputy Minister of Propaganda and Secretary of the Party Committee of Xiamen Daily; and Xu Ruokun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Editor-in-Chief of Xiamen Daily, along with other officials from the city.

Over the past 75 years, Xiamen has transformed from a small coastal town into a modern, high-quality international city. As a witness, participant, and chronicler of this journey, Xiamen Daily has resonated with the rhythm of the times, playing a critical role in documenting, participating in, and promoting the economic and social development of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone.

In keeping with the times, the Xiamen Daily has adapted and evolved from a traditional Party newspaper into a modern mainstream media group encompassing various multimedia forms. Its influence and credibility have grown, helping to foster a positive public opinion environment for the city’s economic and social reforms.

This year’s Readers’ Festival includes several major events designed to give attendees an immersive experience of the city’s modern transformations. A notable feature is the exhibition of historical images showcasing Xiamen’s development, cultural heritage, and scenic landmarks, bringing to life the city’s rich history and cultural allure.

Since the second half of this year, the newspaper has also been conducting the “75 Years, 75 People” multimedia interview project, seeking out 75 significant figures in Xiamen’s news landscape. Through multi-perspective reporting, the project highlights the extraordinary changes in Xiamen over the past 75 years. During this festival, representatives from among these 75 individuals will take to the main stage, and an exhibition will allow attendees to connect with the stories of these key figures, showcasing the high-quality growth of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone.

As an annual urban carnival, this year’s festival continues to integrate various resources, providing quality lifestyle information and cultural products to give back to its readers.

Furthermore, a multimedia interactive zone is set up at the festival, where attendees can experience a news studio and explore innovative AI-driven works. Different exhibits will further illustrate Xiamen’s diverse and international city image.
